1. Look Who’s Calling

© Kev Gray 2008 All Rights Reserved

Well Well Well Look Who’s That Calling
Well Well Well Who’s that Knocking on my Door
Well Well Well Who’s that calling
Just in time for the final curtain on my final show

I headed down to Mississippi
I headed down to Canaan’s Land
To see my girl, see my girl down in Mississippi
For one, one last kiss before they send me back to Hell

But she said: Well Well Well Look Who’s That Calling
Well Well Well Who’s that Knocking on my Door
You took a long, long time to get back to see me
So take the short road will you on your way back to hell

I saw the Lord serving sinners in the city
I saw the Devil serving drinks in his hotel
It took me 40 days and nights to get back to Mississippi
But one, just one look, to send me back to hell

I saw my soul wandering in a wasteland
I saw my grave that I dug with my own hands
It took me 40 days and nights to get back to Mississippi
But one, just one look, to send me back to hell

Cos she said: Well Well Well Look Who’s that Calling
Well Well Well Who’s that Knocking on my Door
You took a long, long time to get back to see me
So take the short road
You can take the short road
Back to hell

2. DON’T KILL THE MAN YOU LOVE

© Kev Gray 2007

Into work at Eight, Back home at Nine
But no chance at all of popping to the pub
No game of pool, no pint

These are the new rules, To which we must abide
10 000 years abuse upon our shoulders
Now it`s payback time

Don`t Kill the Man You Love
No, Don`t Kill the Man You Love

Would you have loved the man he is today
Emasculated remnants of the Alpha Male,
Fetch, Sit, Heel, Obey

It’s a horror film, a generation on
`Cause too many children think Daddy is their Brother
As Mummy told him off again

It’s so insane
So don’t complain
When you Kill the Man You Love
Time for a change…

But don’t say nothing
Or you’ll be the one to who pays
A one-bed apartment
or the roof of the Palace again

No football now
On your Saturday
Down at Mothercare with the other good Daddies
Does it have to be that way?

So look into his eyes
Look at his sad face
Vive la Difference better make a comeback
For the future of the human race

You married the man of your dreams
Then divorced him from his own
Perfectly fair it seems
To take away his kids and home
It hurts the soul

Don’t Kill the Man you love
No, No, Don’t Kill the Man you love
Please Don’t Kill the Men you love…

3. Aquarius (Long Time Coming)
© Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved

We, been a long time coming
We, been a long time running
Looking in the wrong directions
Making all the wrong connections
Upside down was back to front to me

Me, I’ve spent a lifetime loving
The freaks, the great unloved, lost, troubled.
Addicts to our male attentions
To things I wouldn’t like to mention
When your mother’s round having her tea

123 and ABC, It’s never easy as it can be
I’ve been here before, I’ve seen it before
Heaven help me, What am I looking for

Me, I’ve spent a lifetime hoping
That she, would come my way, just walk in
And sing and dance just like I wanted
Kiss me like some screen noir goddess
Bed me like she’d just got out of jail

Then 123 and ABC
It’s never easy as it can be
I’ve been here before
I’ve seen it before
Heaven Help Me, What am I looking for

Yeah, We been a long time coming
Yeah, We been a long time coming

4. LAISSEZ-FAIRE

© Kev Gray 2006

Laissez-faire, that’s what I told her
When she asked me where I’d been
Seems unfair, then there’s my shoulder
It’s the way it’s always been

You can go find another, say farewell to our bed of roses
I always knew Time would take you from me

Laissez-faire, so that’s your answer
You know you drive me round the bend
So Laissez-faire, will be my answer
When I sleep with all your friends

You know I’ve never loved another,
Spent my life on our bed of roses
But more thorns, less flowers, now I see
Now I see

It’s a life full of waterfalls on our way to the sea
Got no time for your concrete walls, your man-made beach
You can keep your canal boat rides , the tranquility
I’m going over my waterfalls and see where they lead me

Laissez-faire: it`s for teenagers
Not a girl of 33
You were my prayer, now you’re my cancer,
Eating away at me
So I’ll go find another, bid adieu to our bed of roses
So au revoir, cherie,
Ma cherie

It’s a life full of waterfalls on our way to the sea
Got no time for your concrete walls, your man-made beach
You can keep your canal boat rides, Oh  the tranquility
I`m going over my waterfalls and see where they lead me

5. LETTERS FROM TIJUANA

© Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved

Sitting by the window
Waiting for the postman every morning
My little blue friends are getting low
The shakes are coming on without warning

Letters from Tijuana don’t take that long
You said that you’d be back in a while
It`s been six months, what`s a man to do
Where are you my love
Where are you my love

Ten grand of my cash to blow, El Farmacio’s ole face gonna glow
When he see you walking through that door
Wheelchair bound, but I’m good to go
As soon as you come home from Mexico

And its three times a day, that I write you Love Letters
But they never come, they never come, from you
Maybe it`s true what they say
That I’m fool not to forget you
But this fool waits, this fool waits,
In vain…

Woke up on the doorstep,
the postman had some bills for me this morning
I had a dream of you my love
A dream of you my love
I think you’re sister moved away, your Mama too, they didn’t say
Hope they`re doing fine
So I’m sitting here prayin` you`re coming soon
Got a hot date with my favourite spoon
After you that is, my love

And its three times a day, that I write you Love Letters
But they never come, they never come, from you
And it`s true what they say
That I’m a fool not to forget you
But this fool waits, this fool waits,
In vain.

6. SWINGIN’

© Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved

It started off when I kissed her
It snowballed real soon
By Thursday night it was trio
By Sunday morning it was 2×2

She said came back for a love tryst
She never said nothing about no list
I wondered why she plied me with wine
By the time we got home, they were standing n line

She’s swinging, Night and Day
Hip-slingin, the night away
Ping-pong pingin’ til the break of day
But Lord have mercy…
I cant stay away
No, I cant stay away

I lost two grand on a  Rolex,
I don’t really feel I can say the context
Sign on the wall says “More… more… More…”
Cos every man in the street’s been and knocked on her front door

So go find yourself  an ordinary girl
The type it take some time to make her toes curl
3 months of missionary will suit you fine my friend
Don’t go down this highway or you’ll lose in the end

She’s swinging, Night and Day
Hip-slingin, the night away
Ping-pong pingin’ til the break of day
But Lord have mercy…
I cant stay away
No I cant stay away

7. Number 8
©Kev Gray 2008 All Rights Reserved
Album: Antidote

Heard it on the radio
Sitting waitin’ by the phone
A No. 8

Choppers circling all around your home
People sitting all alone
It couldn’t wait

And I still here you saying give me one last chance
Sometime the camera you know it lies
Please forgive me
Please don’t leave me
I forgave you a 1000 times

So I’m listening on my radio
Tell tell me it isn’t so
A No. 8

TV shots time after time
On a girl pulled out but not alive
Looks like the ring I gave you
To protect you
Please God tell me the camera lies

So I’m turning off my the radio
Turning off my telephone
It couldn’t wait
A number 8

9. VOODOO DOLL (Once in a While)

© Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved

Once in a while, do you think of me?
After Jeremy Kyle in your morning of TV
Or does it  hurt you
Does it still hurt you
I left you lonely
Struggling with a baby

`Cos once in a while,
I`d love to see your pretty face again
Just passing by
Sit and drink away the night again
Just like old times

But 25, the thought of baby`s cries
Meant a long flight
Or you take a tumble down the stairs
Left high and dry,
No word of goodbye
Was the kindest thing to do

See, once in a while
I think I see your pretty face again
Just passing by
I hear a laugh that makes me smile again
On the escalators, when I`m at the train station
Riding on the subway, Standing at the check in
No, no, my dear, no longer hiding from you

Bullseye, on a photo cracked and dry
Oh tell me when, Did u take me off the dartboard
Voodoo doll, two pins in the heart
That rusted long ago

Cos once in a smile u showed me that you loved me
And once in a line I told you that I loved you
So once in a  while, I still think of you
Yes, Once in a sweet while

10. Six Feet Under

© Kev Gray 2009 All Rights Reserved

(Gonna put you in the ground
Gonna hang you upside down
Six Feet Under)

Believe in Sweet-hearted Women
Believe in Sweet-hearted Women
That’s what my mother told me
To keep me out of trouble
That’s what my sweet mother told me
To keep me out of trouble
But now I‘m lying in the ground

Run free but never into trouble
Run free but never into trouble
That’s what my Daddy told me
But I never saw it coming
That’s what my sweet Daddy told me
But I never saw it coming
Till I was lying in the ground

They’ll put you in the ground
They’ll hang you upside down
Six Feet Under
They’ll put you in the ground
Gonna hang you upside down
Six Feet Under
Gonna put you in the ground
Gonna hang you upside down
Six Feet Under
(repeat)

Don’t you believe
In sweet-hearted women
Don’t you believe
In Sweet hearted women
Or you’ll be lying in the ground

11. GENE THERAPY

© Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved

The Loser from the bar, came by today
With his usual lack of charm
And his disdain

Did he ever wait, for a change of fate, or just take on it the chin
Did he have chance, to change his circumstance, or was it written in the genes

Who’s the loser on guitar? – He aims at me
Well fancy that, Ole Fancy Dan – he’s back again

Does his sad face, shed tears of pain, when no-one there to see
From an early age, hobbled in his cage, they threw away the key

Was he God`s great mistake or do I need him
To make my life seem so much better
Is that why God made him,
To make my pain seem all the lesser
Some form of therapy

And my rage turns to pity
When I thank my lucky stars it wasn’t me
But its too late; yes, its too late
For my fake sympathy

From the boozer to the bar and back again
With a bruiser by his side just in case

Does his sad face, shed tears of pain, when there`s no-one there to see
From an early age, crippled in his cage,
they threw away the key

Was he God`s great mistake or do I need him
To make my life seem so much better
Is that why God made him,
To make my pain seem all the lesser,
To stop my self-sympathy

And my rage turns to pity
When I thank the Lord it wasn’t me

So…to the Loser, on the bar,
This one`s on me

12. HOW THE STORY ENDS

© Kev Gray All Rights Reserved 2007

Let me tell you How the Story Ends…
Let me tell you How the Story Ends…

From the start we were writing Shakespeare
Music by Rachmaninov
A host of daffodils I did bring you
So what if they were from the roundabout on Lobley Hill

Antony and lovely Cleopatra would have given us a love parade
Had they won the war
But just like you
All she ever craved was asses, milk and more…

So let me tell you How the Story Ends
Let me tell you How the Story Ends
In my imagination, I`m running through the station
The train pulls in and up you come into my arms again
And for a minute it lets me pretend
That somehow somewhere someplace
You still love me

Where he came from I’ll just never know
An extra hijacked my stage
“Exit pursued by bear”, was his role
But someone forgot to lock him in his cage

He had a haircut from Eastenders
An inbred-looking Hapsburg chin
Laden up with gold, it dazzled you
But couldn`t mask the fact he had
A character made of tin

So let me tell you How the Story Ends….
Let me tell you How the Story Ends
The Flyin` Scotsman`s comin`
I hear those tracks a-rumblin
I cut the ropes and up you come into my arms again
And for a minute, just let me pretend
That somehow, somewhere some place
You still love me

I know I may have lied when I said I had a yacht,
But C’mon, Baby, I’m your dreamboat,
It`s clearly in the plot

So let me tell you How the Story Ends
Let me tell you How the Story Ends
My imagination
Running through the station
The train pulls in and up you come into my arms again

And just as my poor heart begins to mend
Suddenly at once,
A thought begins to linger
What a happy time I`m having with this trigger at my finger
And that`s how the story ends, when I hear
Drop the Gun…
Please Sir, Just Drop the Gun…

 13. THE MOUNTAIN

© Kev Gray 2007

I had a dream last night
That the Lord was looking down on me
I saw him standing there
Pointing waving fingers at me
He said, Go down from the mountain
You gotta go down from the mountain

I see light all around me
But dark clouds soon follow me
There`s a man called Peter, stroking his beard
Saying, This way through the Great Gate, Please
He said, Go down from the mountain
You gotta go down from the mountain

I know you think I led a life of sin
But it`s been a life of misery
I pulled a woman from a raging fire
So please, please – Don`t cut me free

Then Hope springs eternal
I see my friends looking at me
I smile, reach out my hand
But they all turn their backs on me

They say go down from the mountain
You gotta go down from the mountain
As I look back on my life
I look at every good and bad deed
I pulled a man from the railway line
So please, please – Don’t cut me free

Then I awake from my dream
See the scene around me and all`s clear to me
There`s a man in the mirror with a gun in his hand
Saying, Squeeze on that trigger, Squeeze
So I go down from the mountain
I head down from the mountain
Now I see I gotta go

14. Love Has Set Me Free
©Kev Gray 2007 All Rights Reserved
Key: F/F#
Acoustic guitars, piano, perc

Will the Lord send an angel to comfort me
Will the Lord Send a sweetheart to rescue me

This I asked myself as I lay on the shelf
With my wine and my whisky
While Time kept on rolling
Just hurtin’ me

When I aimed for the stars I couldn’t reach
Crushed all the flowers below my feet
All through my life , Kept meeting the knife
Love was no place to be
From one to the next , they kept burning the nest
Each one took a piece out of me

While Time just kept rolling
Just hurting me
Yeah, Time it just kept rolling, just hurting me

And as Time waits for no-one, I crossed the sea
Over mountains, and oceans, I looked for peace
Thought I found it West, That I was finally blessed
As I lay on that Great Prairie
Thought my time in the East would have conquered my beasts
But those demons they still followed me

While Time just kept rolling
Just hauntin’ me
Yeah, Time just kept rolling just hauntin’ me

So will the Lord send an angel to rescue me
So will the Lord send a sweetheart – please answer me

Thought my time was done, that my race was run
That Life held no meaning for me
Then Love came one morning and set me me free
Love came a calling to rescue me
Yes Love has set me free
My Love has set me free
